This question, what is bringing you joy today was the final line of my friends Carolyn's most recent post, and it got me thinking. At this most recent thanksgiving my mum gave many of us present a little journal with the challenge to write 5 things we are thankful for each day in it. I must admit this has been an interesting exercise. Although I'm a week behind at this point - I did so well keeping on top if it until I spent a weekend away at Avalanche and since coming back have struggled with the routine a bit, but that's beside the point - My point that I wish to share is how this exercise has changed ever so subtly how I look at my world. I find myself consciously keeping an eye out for things that make me thankful or bring a smile to my face. For example, I noticed for the first time in the two years I'd worked at the hospital that our secretary gives whoever walks into her office 100% of her attention and how good that makes me feel. I notice the way the sun makes the dew on the grass in the morning glow while I play with the dog, and know that I'm the only person who was there to see that moment of absolute beauty. It's been a exercise I would recommend to anyone! and it has certainly helped me be more aware of the joy in my life.
Today, thus far on my list of things I'm thankful for and have brought me joy ....
1. Meeting someone new at the park this morning and having the interaction be more about the people at the end of the leash.
2. A hot cup of tea ready for me when I came back from my walk with the dog, even though Josh is no where to be seen (gone off to a mens breakfast)
3. Taking a moment to read about the joys in my friends lives before jumping into the business of me day
4. That the day is not over yet, and there is still more joy to be had!
5. .........
So, following Carolyn's example, what is bringing you joy today?
