Survived an Avalanche

So once again this year I made the trip up to Muskoka Woods to help out with the Avalanche junior high youth retreat.  The theme of the weekend was More than a Name: discovering who I was created to be, and it was played out using the idea of a ship journeying from the old land to the new (picture Master and Commander type costumes and the stage became the ship).  Over all I think the retreat went off really well despite the -39 degree weather (including windchill).  From the admin perspective, we tried out a new registration process and learned a lot about how we can continue to tweak it to make registration that much easier.  It was a very affirming weekend (I so love hanging around with a bunch of Christians who all love affirming those they work with!) and it was an awesome opportunity to serve others.  I don't think I have ever served so many leaders cups of coffee while standing behind the office counter before, but it felt really good to add this new way to care for the leaders!  I really really hope I will be able to help out again next year!

On another note, while all my friends seem to be bringing children into the world to grow their family, Josh and I have decided to grow our family by buying a new used car!  Our trusty old van is slowly dying and is no longer safe to drive in winter conditions so we have pushed forward our planned purchase date and will be (barring any unforeseen hiccups) picking up our new (used) Mazda3 tomorrow evening.  I must say I'm pretty excited at the anticipated decrease cost of filling up the tank as well as being able to fit in those small parking spaces.  And it does feel good knowing that we are being just a little more environmentally friendly!

It's always great to serve alongside you. Enjoy the new "addition".

What? It's not blue? Everyone else has bought a blue car in our family!

when you're buying used, you get far fewer colour options... not to mention that I don't believe your Santa Fae is blue!
