On Call

Today was my first day on call at St. Joe's and I received my first page at exactly 9:00am ... exactly when my shift started. Luck for me it was one of the other chaplains just wanting to ask me a question. My second page of the day, however, came during the first hymn at church, and this time I had to head to the hospital. I spent about 2.5 hours there and was once again reminded of the peace that seems to come with death. Dispite all the sadness and grief and tears, there always seems to be (at least in my very limited experince) a strange sort of peace present too.

Hopefully that will be all the calls I get this shift though... I really don't feel like going back into the hospital tonight anytime.
