This Wednesday while at IV, I really felt like I got a slap in the face. At the end of last term I expressed my desire to lead another small group this year to the head of small groups. However, this Wednesday when I went to IV and talked to the head staff member, I was told that small group leaders had been hand chosen over the summer and that I couldn’t help lead a small group. Then I was informed that I could be put into a small group and be an active member (which anyone can do, and it would not involve anything further than just being a small group member) and he tried to make it sound like it was some sort of special position they’ve been having a hard time finding some one to fill.
So I asked what were the small groups each focusing on this year and was told that 4 of the five groups were looking at the parables in Luke (which coincidentally also was the focus for 2 of the 4 groups last year) and the fifth was a super intensive on part of Matthew. When I enquired why so many groups were doing the same thing (cause I don’t really see any value in multiple groups studying the same thing… different people are in different places and need different things from small groups) I was informed it was because he didn’t have time to plan more topics… the whole point of having small group leaders is voided if they’re not planning to meet the needs of their groups members!
I have been looking forward to leading a small group all summer, and here I’m told that I can’t cause he didn’t choose me and that because he wants to be in control, anyone in a small group is being forced into a group studying parables in Luke.
GAH!! It makes me so angry!!!
