I love to camp

Over the past few days Josh and I went on an adventure to London and The Pinary provincial park. We set off early Tuesday morning and arrived at Western some time around 10:30. I took Josh on a tour of the campus, showing him my rez as well as a bunch of the other buildings and eateries I frequented during my year at Western. Then (after a little misunderstanding over the directions) we when to Forest City Surplus, a wonderful camping surplus store. There we bought a pump for our air mattress, a rain suit for Josh, some other odds and ends, and two duck hats (I’ve always wanted a duck hat!!). After about an hour poking around this neat little store, we met up with one of my friends from Western. It was nice to see her again, and get caught up. After dropping her off at work we headed for the camp ground and set up camp for the night. It was so cold!! For all those who were considering a trip to Valance, be glad you didn’t go, cause it was about zero degrees that night and was super cold!! So after a miserable and cold night, we woke up to the most beautiful blue sky and warm weather. We spent most the day hiking and managed to both get sunburns on our noses. The trees were absolutely huge! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a forest like this before, it had so many trees down, and so many huge trees, I wish the battery in my camera had lasted longer so I could have taken pictures. Then today, we went on another short hike, packed up the camp site and headed home. Along the way we stopped by Belmont (sort of south east of London) to see where Josh had lived between the age of 2 and 2nd grade. Now we’re both home, enjoying being free from the smell of campfire, and absolutely wiped out. I can’t believe how out of shape I’ve become!

The animals we saw:
~ 1 really noisy raccoon (I’ve never heard a raccoon make noises like this one before!)
~ about 25 turtles
~ 1 Blue jay
~ 2 Cardinals
~ multiple other various birds
~ about 20 turkey vultures
~ 3 squirrels
~ 2 chipmunks
~ 2 muskitoes

This is the quad of my first year rez, Medway-Sydenham (commonly known as med-syd)

This is University College, where I had my 8:00 calculus lectures four out of five mornings a week (and this is only half the distance i had to walk to get there)

This is Middlesex college, a very pritty building on campus

This is our new tent (courtesy of a few IV friends as a wedding gift) and our campsite

This is me using our new (very slow) pump to inflate our air mattress

This is Josh with his fun hat and his tea

The river that runs through the Pinary

One of the many hollow logs around the Pinary. You can't really tell from the pic, but it went back over 2 meters.
