Ups, Downs, and Suitcases

It's been a busy and eventful past couple of weeks filled with ups and downs (more ups thankfully).

Up #1:  At the beginning April I finished my research project looking at what contributes to the presence and/or absence of psychotherapy (as defined by the psychotherapy act, 2007, in Ontario) in hospital situated spiritual care and submitted it to my supervisors at Knox College and Waterloo Lutheran Seminary.   The results were pretty interesting, even surprising in some ways.  It would be fun to continue to follow up on some of the hypotheses my research generated,  but I've discovered it's not that easy finding people to pay you to do research.  Last week I got the feedback, and it was very positive!  Still some work to be done but both my profs are really supportive of my publishing the article because they believe the content needs to be made public and because it was very well done.  I'm feeling very encouraged by this feed back!

Up #2:  As part of my internship I was encouraged to apply to present my recently finished research project at the SPCR (Society for Pastoral Counseling Research) in Ottawa, and my presentation was accepted.  So last weekend I road tripped with a group of fun women to Ottawa to attend and present at the conference.  There were moments I felt just a little out of my league as all of the other presenters were well seasoned professionals who were sharing many insights into how to incorporate (and be more aware of) the body and touch in the work we do.  I was part of the last group of workshops of the day to present, and I was a little discouraged with how few people chose to come to my workshop, but the discussion was great and all those present were really engaged!  By the end I felt so affirmed by the process as well as one participant asked if he could have a copy of my power point slides because he though the presentation would contribute to the college of psychotherapy conversation happening in the Ottawa region.  He was also highly recommending that I do go forward with publishing my research.  Very affirming!

Down:  This week I made a phone call to find out about the status of one of my job applications (yes believe it or not, one permanent full time position within a commutable distance from Hamilton did get posted!! Ironically, the post went up a few days following my post on feeling so discouraged) and discovered, that I would not be getting an interview.  This was a bit of a downer.  I find myself wondering when will some other posting go up, and if my resume will ever get me an interview..... I'm considering taking my resume into one of those professionals to get it looked at cause I would really hate to be missing out on possible job opportunities cause my resume isn't quite cutting it.  That being said, there is some relief in not having to worry any more if I will ever hear.  I know I wont, so I can move one.

Up #3:  Found out my article I was asked to write by Knox College on my trip to Cuba with the seminary was published in this months Presbyterian Record.  I've never had anything published before.  It was edited from my original version, but I think I'm still happy with how it turned out.  It felt weird to see my picture in the magazine so many times.

Up #4:  After unpacking from my two nights in Ottawa I'm all packed up again and off to Taiwan on Saturday!  Josh's sister has been there with her husband since September and we're going to visit!  I'm very excited!  Taiwan has never been a destination I've dreamed about going to, but when an opportunity like this presents itself how can we say no!?  Hopefully I'll have lots of pictures to share when we get back!!
