March has felt like a pretty full month so far, at least on the weekends!
We started the month off by watching the Old Timers Hockey game at copps… we got to see a bunch of retired pro hockey players beat the Hamilton police team easily. It was a pretty fun evening though… I’ve never actually been to a live hockey game before so that was pretty cool, but all their little side shows kept interrupting the game. I think I would have preferred watching a regular game better. But we walked over, and it was beautifully snowy and a great chance to get a better feel for this city we live in.
The second weekend was packed with excitement as we began looking for a dog and found Dustin at the Cambridge SPCA! He’s a 1-year-old lab cross with a great personality. So after applying to bring him home with us we went to a mystery dinner with some folks from our church and had a fun evening of good company and conversation. It was really fun getting to know some of the other couples in the church better (even if they were all old enough to be our parents or grandparents!).
DustinThe third weekend began with some bad news…. Somehow our application to take Dustin home got lost and he’d been adopted by someone else in the mean time (tear). So after getting over the loss of Dustin we decided to head over to Hamilton’s SPCA and see what dogs they had. After taking three dogs for a walk we finally admitted to ourselves that we really did like the incredibly energized dog with very few manners best (even though she was bigger than we were hoping for) and so we adopted Meeka! Unlike at the SPCA in Cambridge, upon filling out the application you get to take your new dog home, so the rest of weekend was filled with new puppy fun! Meeka is wonderful at Sit and Stay but everything else is a little crazy!!! She’s getting better on a leash already but we have a long way to go (it really should tell you something when they decide to throw in obedience training for free instead of just giving you the $50 rebate!!). My sister and her boyfriend also came for a visit Saturday evening so they were the first to get the privilege of meeting Meeka.
