What a Christmas!!!

Christmas this year was super busy, but so good, even if it didn’t really ever feel like Christmas. Christmas started all different this year in that Josh and I not only started our Christmas shopping early, but we finished it long before exams were even over. We then headed to Mississauga and my parents house a day or so after exams ended, and for the first time ever, both my parents had the week before Christmas off. We spent most of the week just taking it easy and playing board games and such, and then on Friday we headed up to Aunt Linda’s and Uncle Stew’s to help get ready for the Richards’ Christmas party.

Upon arriving, Aunt Linda handed my sister, mother, Josh and I each a recipe card and said GO! For a few hours the kitchen was crazy as we all fell over on another trying to get our recipe done… Josh managed to shred an entire bag of carrots, and I slightly over cooked my broccoli casserole, but everything in general went well. To all our surprise, we were done in no time at all, and spent the evening relaxing and hot tub-ing, while the boys enjoyed a few drinks. The next morning was more relaxing until people started arriving for the Richards’ Christmas. It was so wonderful seeing and spending time with family again.

That evening we headed back to Mississauga, and to bed to wake up for a crazy Christmas Eve day. It was so weird waking up and just Josh and I opening our stockings, cause we were gonna be heading to Chatsworth that afternoon. But after opening the stockings and our gifts from my family, we headed to Church, then to the Lord’s Christmas party. And after more food and family time and gifts, Josh and I headed north to be with his family in time for the Christmas Eve service. Then it was time for more gifts… I have never seen so much excitement over opening gifts, and doing so efficiently! Shannon herded us out of the church as soon as the service was over, and straight to Josh’s parents house to open gifts. It was really nice to be there this year, cause last year we missed gift opening… apparently some people just couldn’t wait to give Rae her new violin :)

The next morning it was off to Josh’s families cottage and the Hawkins’ family Christmas. I think it was during dinner that evening that it most felt like Christmas. Just a family spended time together, remembering Christ, and sharing with one another… I must say, I was a really enjoyable day! It was certainly different not opening any gifts on Christmas day (well none except for the $5 secret santa thing we all did). The next week was spent at the cottage just relaxing. Josh’s other grandparents came up for a day, and then it was just his family. I managed to catch something from Rae-Lynn and therefore spent most of two days just sleeping and reading, but it was a good chance to recover from all the busyness.

Overall, Christmas may not have felt much like Christmas this year (I largely blame the lack of snow) but I think it was the starting of some traditions I can get used to :)
